Eco-friendly by default

Eco-friendliness isn't a tier you upgrade to — every plan UmbHost offers runs on the same renewable infrastructure, with the same Ecologi carbon offsetting, and the same datacentre standards. Hobby sites and enterprise platforms alike are hosted on 100% renewable-powered datacentres, with carbon offsetting funded by us at no extra cost to you.

FAQs

The questions sustainability-conscious customers and procurement readers ask most. If your question isn't covered here, get in touch and we'll address it directly.

No. Renewable infrastructure, Ecologi carbon offsetting, and Green Web Foundation certification come standard on every UmbHost plan - from static hosting through enterprise dedicated infrastructure. There is no separate "green tier" you pay extra for.

The 5% of hosting fees we commit to Ecologi tree planting comes out of our margin, not yours.

Our datacentre partners publicly commit to 100% renewable energy supply, with verifiable contracts directly with renewable energy generators or via certified Renewable Energy Guarantee of Origin (REGO) certificates. We're independently verified as a green hosting provider by the Green Web Foundation, which audits hosting infrastructure against renewable energy claims.

Procurement readers needing supplier sustainability evidence for tender responses can request our supplier sustainability documentation directly.

Ecologi carbon offsetting runs through verified offset projects - primarily reforestation in regions with strong forestry governance, plus methane capture, renewable energy projects in developing markets, and verified carbon credits from Gold Standard, VCS, and other recognised certification schemes.

We commit 5% of every hosting fee to these offsets, calculated as roughly four or more trees per customer per month.

Web hosting accounts for an estimated 2% of global energy consumption - comparable to the entire aviation industry. Most generalist hosts make no commitment to renewable infrastructure, meaning the typical website runs on whatever mix of fossil fuels, nuclear, and renewables happens to be on the local grid.

Choosing a renewable-powered host doesn't make a website carbon-neutral on its own, but it removes a measurable portion of its operational carbon footprint and supports the wider transition to renewable infrastructure. For organisations reporting Scope 3 emissions, hosting choice is increasingly a documented procurement decision.
